'The Eye as a Window to Your Health' Animation
with SCONe, University of Edinburgh

September 2025

An animation that describes the benefits of getting a regular retinal scan with the optometrist, not only to your eye health but to your overall wellbeing.

Retinal images taken during a visit to your optometrist can help to detect eye conditions like age-macular degeneration or glaucoma— projects like SCONe are exploring ways to use retinal images to detect other conditions, such as diabetes or neurodegenerative diseases.

SCONe (Scottish Collaborative Optometry-Ophthalmology Network eResearch) is a Scotland-wide research project based at the University of Edinburgh. The project collects and safely stores retinal images from routine eye examinations to improve the early detection of disease.
